When do I start?

I'm trying my hardest to remain stress-free as I plan to start my first year of homeschooling. Thankfully, it's kindergarten, and I don't need to worry about a specific amount of hours for the state or anything like that. However, everyone around me has started already, and I can't help but feel like I'm behind. I'm not, and it's really about whatever schedule I want to create, but I can't help but feel anxious about it!

I can already tell this is a lesson I will be learning over and over in this journey:

Don't compare yourself to everyone else

- just do what God has given YOU and YOUR kids.

I had planned on getting all of my supplies together last week, but 2 year old Milli came down with a horrendous virus that peaked at a 106.5 fever. It was ROUGH. Then I took Optimus for a day to the Monterey Bay Aquarium to get him out of the house and get us both away from the germs. Poor guy needed a break from all the sickness.

I have a "shopping cart" full of various items from discountschoolsupply.com - clay, pencils, stamps, writing sheets, etc. But I haven't ordered them yet. Hoping I will have everything ready over the next couple of weeks and ready to start in the beginning of September.

I don't know if anyone will ever read this blog, as I haven't shared it with anyone, but I think it will be helpful for me somehow. If you do come across it, please say hello!

Why this blog?

I decided to start this blog because I feel very much like I am not the norm when it comes to homeschool moms. I realize that there is no real "normal", but when I look at other blogs this is what I feel inside:

"God, are you sure you want ME to homeschool?"

I don't take beautiful pictures like a professional photographer.

I don't crochet, knit, or own a sewing machine.

I don't spend a day preparing 7 healthy casseroles for the week.

I am not crafty.

I am not an interior designer with a perfect house.

All of these moms have such pretty pictures, and schoolrooms, and knitted scarves, and recipes, and templates, and schedules for vacuuming their houses...

God, that is just.not.me.

I have cleaning people come every two weeks because I would rather play outside with my kids than clean. I don't have everything in its place and a place for everything. I usually don't cook meals with more than 6-7 items. And my kids don't eat vegetables - they just don't.

Oh, and they drink chocolate milk.

And God, I like my space. I have been waiting for the school years to start so I could have more time to myself.

But you are calling me to homeschool. And I understand why. I trust you. I need you. I'm yours.

About Me

I am a stay at home mom of two kidlets. My son, let's just call him Optimus, is five years old. He is charming, compassionate, funny, and right now testing the boundaries on defiance. My daughter, we'll call her Milli, is 2 1/2 years old. She is happy, talkative, loves to dance, and is currently refusing to use her potty chair. I am happily married to a man I met on a Christian internet dating site nine years ago, I call him Superman. He makes me laugh and I drive him crazy :)

I have been a Christian my whole life yet still sometimes struggle with God's love for ME. I even went to seminary and was a pastor - ironic eh? I try to be transparent and genuine and that will hopefully translate on this blog.
